Former VP Joe Biden leads doubleheader of Conor Lamb GOTV rallies in Western PA
Former Vice President Joe Biden led a doubleheader of rallies for Democratic candiidate Conor Lamb with just one week to go until the special election for the 18th Congressional District. Biden turned his western Pennsylvania visit into a testimonial for the Democratic candidate in the race against Republican Rick Saccone.
"I work for Conor Lamb," Biden joked, introducing himself to the crowd of supporters at Yorktown Hall on the Robert Morris University campus Tuesday evening.
Lamb, noting the divisiveness of modern politics, told the audience, "I couldn't be happier to be on stage today with a leader that everybody likes."
"He reminds me of my son, Beau Biden," the former vice president said in a more somber moment. Biden said both his late son and Lamb shared a commitment to serving others, in both military and civilian life.
"It's always been about the other guy with Conor. It's not just about him. It's been about the other guy, the other person," Biden said.
The former VP also noted the barrage of TV ads attacking Lamb.
"Eight, nin, $10 million in negative ads. Why are they so afraid of him?" Biden asked as the crowd laughed in response to his question.
Biden pitched Lamb as a budding champion of the middle class, Social Security and Medicare.
"We are so well positioned. We've got a man of real character. We've got a guy that you're going to be very, very proud of, the nation will be proud of," Biden said.
At an earlier rally with union workers at the Carpenters Training Center in Collier Township, Biden urged a big turnout for a special election with national political implications.
"Labor's never left anybody behind . He'll never leave any behind. Go out and make sure he wins. It will set a trend in the nation. It will change things," Biden said his his closing to the cheering crowd.
The special election in the 18th district is Tuesday, March 13.
