The Kansas City Chiefs’ quest to make history in 2024 is set to take center stage in an all-new docuseries, bringing fans closer than ever to the team’s highs, lows, and everything in between. ESPN, Disney+, and Skydance Sports have joined forces to create a six-part documentary that delves into the Chiefs’ season as they aimed to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. With cameras and microphones chronicling every pivotal moment, football fans will soon get an all-access look at one of the most compelling seasons in NFL history.

ESPN and Disney+ team up for must-watch six-part docuseries on Chiefs’ 2024 season

The 2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary for the Chiefs. With Patrick Mahomes leading the charge and Andy Reid’s strategic brilliance on full display, Kansas City not only captured a franchise-record 15 regular-season wins but also secured its third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. Yet, the dream of a historic three-peat was ultimately dashed in Super Bowl LIX, where the Philadelphia Eagles claimed a 40-22 victory. This contrast between the team’s electrifying dominance throughout the season and their ultimate downfall will make for gripping storytelling.

According to ESPN president of content Burke Magnus, the docuseries aims to go beyond the typical X’s and O’s analysis. “ESPN and Disney+ know that sports fans are interested in stories that take them beyond the X’s and O’s, and this series will explore the legacy of the Chiefs franchise while also showcasing the emotional highs and lows of building a championship-winning team,” he stated.
Unlike traditional NFL documentaries, this series offers fans a rare glimpse into the personal lives of players, coaches, and executives. Produced by Words + Pictures in collaboration with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Foolish Club Studios, the documentary will weave together modern-day triumphs with the rich 65-year history of the franchise.
“No team in sports has been more captivating over the last decade than the Kansas City Chiefs,” said executive producer Connor Schell. “To get the chance to go behind the scenes of the team’s modern-day dynasty with its signature stars, and weave that story together with the Chiefs’ history and incomparable legacy of Lamar Hunt, whose imprint on the club and the league is still felt every Sunday, is a remarkable opportunity.”
Archival footage, exclusive interviews, and never-before-seen moments from the 2024 season will add layers of depth, allowing viewers to witness the passion, intensity, and determination that have made the Chiefs a global powerhouse. With showrunner Matt Maxson and a team that includes producers from “The Last Dance,” the docuseries promises the same level of high-quality storytelling that captivated audiences in previous sports documentaries.
Beyond their dominance on the field, the Chiefs have expanded their reach in the entertainment world. Their collaborations have included online animated specials like A Kingdom Christmas Story: Hail Merry and Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story on the Hallmark Channel. Now, this docuseries adds another layer to their growing media footprint, further cementing their place as one of the most marketable franchises in sports.
